Flørli 4444 - Premium hike

Price:

NOK

FLØRLI 4,444

Consider spending a day climbing the world’s longest wooden staircase. With its 4444 steps, Flørli is known to be one of the scariest stairs in the world. The climb is long and strenuous, but provides great lookout points where you can stop to catch your breath while enjoying the vista over the Lysefjord down below. This is a two-part hike that does not take you through the same scenery more than once. The descent follows the hundred-year old marked trail that was once used by the “Rallarer”. Rallarer were often underprivileged men that were employed in the 1800s Norway to help build infrastructure. They are remembered to have carried up to 80 kg loads on their backs, and are the ones that built the stairs along with the Flørli Hydroelectric Power Station at their base. The dam at Ternevatnet, which the return trail passes, also stands as a reminder of their mastery. We also offer a lighter version of this trip, where we climb 700 stairs before we head back down to the village. This tour also includes Lysefjord cruise where you can view the Pulpit Rock from sea level.

TRAIL CONDITIONS

The trip comprises two main parts: 4444 wooden stairs for the ascent and a marked trail for the descent. Some hiking experience is desirable, but not mandatory. However, we do advise that only visitors in good physical condition undertake the full challenge, while others may wish to experience the “light” version.

GEAR AND SNACKS

Hikers should be prepared with clothes and shoes suitable for the weather conditions. Hiking boots are strongly encouraged, or trail running shoes, at the very least. Other suggestions include warm, windproof and waterproof clothing.

Be advised that we will not have the opportunity to refill your water containers for most of the trip, so make sure that you have enough water with you to keep hydrated. Lunch will not be provided, but we suggest that you bring your own lunch.

Last but not least, each hiker is responsible for carrying his/her own gear, so a suitable backpack is recommended.

TRIP COST

Standard package NOK 2500,-. The price of this trip includes transportation and covers the guide’s expenses.

We have the possibility to accommodate groups larger than 8 hikers. Please contact us for further details.

PROPOSED STANDARD SCHEDULE

We pick you up at the location you choose when booking. Note that drop-off location, upon return, will be the same as pickup location.

Estimated pickup would be 4:45-5:00AM from your accommodation. Be ready 5minutes before pick up in front of main entrance.

We first drive for an hour to the boat terminal in Lauvvik, from where we take the ferry to Flørli. The boat trip is in itself a great 45 minute long experience that provides the opportunity to see Pulpit Rock from below, while cruising on the Lysefjord waters. The Flørli Hydroelectric Power Station is our starting point for the hike. At the top of the stairs we will allow ourselves time to enjoy the view, and will most likely take some pictures. Meanwhile, we can enjoy our packed lunch, beverages and some snacks. On our descent, we follow the 100 year old track that the “Rallar” used when they built the dam at Ternevatnet. Once back in Flørli, we plan to spend the time before the ferry’s arrival looking around the village, visiting the power station museum and possibly the cafe. We expect to arrive in Stavanger around 5:30PM.
